Self-respect is often imagined as earned: after the success, the diploma, the recognition. In Maya Mandala's teaching it grows from the opposite direction — from the inside, from the one who can see.

The practice builds an inner witness — the part of us that meets the day honestly, in its mistakes and its measure, and holds them in respect. The attention comes home, the body is met, and the respect of the self becomes the ground of the respect of the world.
