Maya Mandala has spent over 30 years meeting people who rearranged their schedule and found the strain unchanged — the boundaries moved, the hours rebalanced, and the tiredness and restlessness still following them home. Her teaching places work-life balance in the inner territory: the arrangement of hours matters, and what carries it is the state a person brings to them.
Two practical findings run through the work-life picture: the fit between preferred and actual boundaries predicts wellbeing, and recovery experiences matter more than any particular activity.
