Maya's Method How Maya's Practice Works With Mindful Movement
Maya's approach works through the body in motion: Mandala Dance, Wave Yoga, and walking practice each provide a form of movement meditation. The attention follows the sensation — the arc of an arm, the wave of the spine, the placement of a foot. Her programs — Basics of Life, Mandala Dance, Wave Yoga — build this capacity systematically: attention in simple motion first, then more complex sequences, then free expression.
Mandala Dance carries this furthest, and shows the mechanism most clearly. Its first level teaches the movements themselves, and with them the management of attention — trained by visualizing how the energy travels. Attention and energy are handled together, through the body, until the flow itself is felt and pictured as the shape of a mandala, built session by session.
When We Attune Through the Dance
"When we attune ourselves through dance, we arrive at a very even state of mind, at a kind of balance."
In her teaching movement meditation works for everyone: the restless find a channel for their energy, the body-disconnected find contact through motion, and experienced meditators discover a new dimension of practice.
Retreat participant, film about Mandala Dance Two further levels build on that foundation, by the school's own description. The second turns the solo practice into a circle: empathy and listening deepen, breath and movement synchronize with the other women present, and the group attunes to one shared flow — the stage the program calls creating the Mandala of the Circle Space. The third asks the dancer to consciously carry every state the sacred pattern itself forms, harmonizing the qualities of the elements and of every direction, into what the teaching calls the Manifested Mandala of the Universe.
Assembling the Structure
"We literally assemble ourselves from the bottom all the way up through all centers — we align, we build, we harmonize every aspect of our structure."
Maya Mandala, in conversation with Yasin Anvari on the alchemy of awakening The body in motion is a complete doorway: attention rests on the movement, the breath, the weight — and the practice carries the same capacity that the sitting builds.
