Many people are kinder to almost anyone else than they are to themselves. Maya has spent over 30 years meeting this in students: the specific relationship a person has with themselves — the tone of the inner voice, the habit of putting themselves last, the reflex of self-criticism — still running beneath the surface of daily life.

Her work approaches this relationship directly. Self-love, in her teaching, is a practice: attention, acceptance, and support directed inward, repeated until a new relationship with oneself becomes the default.
